I’m spending my last few weeks remiscing on favorite experiences here in San Francisco. A top of the list memory: Getting our entire neighborhood to participate in our sidewalk chalk collage in front of our old building
Natasha and Scotty had just arrived in San Francisco and after an afternoon of drinks in the Castro, we stopped in Cliff’s Variety (one of my FAVORITE stores) and treated ourselves to the biggest box of colored sidewalk chalk we could find.
The next day we set out drawing. We scattered chalk all over and wrote in big letters “DRAW SOMETHING SWELL” - before long there were all kinds of people stopping as they walked by - children in strollers, business men on their way home from work, a couple visiting their daughter, a shaggy haired guy in birkenstocks.
After a few hours, we left the rest of the chalk behind in the hopes others would participate. The next morning revealed that our little project had doubled in size:
This is my San Francisco - full of all sorts of people who aren’t too busy to stop and leave a little of themselves behind.
love,
M
i wish i could be this cool!!!!
